How to Play
- Pick a topic. Mixed brings all kinds of puzzles, or choose Numbers, Letters or Shapes on their own.
- Choose a difficulty. Easy starts with one-rule patterns, Medium mixes simple and tricky ones, and Hard brings out the toughest puzzles first.
- Study the pattern, work out the rule and tap one of the four answers before the 25-second timer runs out.
- The right answer lights up at once, with a one-line note that explains the rule.
- After ten questions you see your total points and can play again to beat your best.
Rules
Each round has ten "What comes next?" questions. A correct answer earns 100 points plus a speed bonus of up to 50, so a quick and correct tap is worth almost 150. A wrong answer, or no answer when time runs out, scores zero, but you never lose points you have already earned.
Numbers puzzles use rules such as adding or taking away the same amount, doubling, halving, square and cube numbers, gaps that grow by one each time, two steps that take turns, two series woven together, primes, and numbers made by adding the two before them. Letters puzzles use the English alphabet from A to Z: skips, backwards runs, growing gaps, letter pairs and letter–number mixes such as A1, C3, E5. Shapes puzzles use simple symbols like circles, squares, triangles, stars and diamonds that repeat, grow, rotate or move along a row, and some ask you to count sides.
Every puzzle is checked so that only one answer fits the pattern. These are like the "series" questions found in many school and aptitude tests.
Tips & Strategy
- Look at the gaps first. Write the differences between numbers in your head. If the gaps are equal, growing or taking turns, the rule usually jumps out.
- Check multiplying when gaps grow fast. When numbers race ahead, see if each one is double or three times the one before.
- Turn letters into numbers. A is 1, B is 2 and so on. Letter puzzles become simple number series once you count places.
- Split long series in two. If a sequence zigzags, the odd and even positions may be two separate patterns.
- For shapes, find the repeating unit. Mark where the first shape appears again; everything after that simply repeats.
- Speed matters, but only after accuracy. The bonus is at most 50 points, while a correct answer is worth 100.
Game Modes
Solo gives you ten puzzles to solve at your own pace within the timer. Add one to three computer players for a race and watch their scores climb beside yours.
Daily puzzle gives everyone the same ten questions each day, with a fresh set at midnight India time. When you finish, share a grid of green and red squares that shows your result without giving away any answers. Come back daily to grow your streak.
Same device lets two to eight players share one phone. Players take turns and each gets their own questions: five each for two to four players, or three each for five to eight. Pass the phone when your turn ends, and the highest total wins.
At the end of every game, a review list shows each question with its correct answer, so you can see exactly which rule caught you out.
Play with Friends Online
Choose Play Online, create a room and share the link with up to seven friends. Everyone sees the same puzzle at the same moment on their own screen. Answers stay secret until all players have answered or the time is up. Then the reveal shows the right answer and who got it. The next question follows automatically, so nobody has to press a button to keep the game moving. Quick, correct answers earn the most points, and the top scorer after ten puzzles wins.
Pattern Puzzle FAQ
Is Pattern Puzzle free?
Yes. It runs in your browser on phones, tablets and computers, with no download and no sign-up.
Who can play?
Anyone who likes a brain teaser. Easy mode suits younger children, while Hard mode, with primes and woven series, will make adults think.
Can two answers both be right?
No. Every puzzle is checked against many common rules, so only one choice continues the pattern.
How does the daily puzzle work?
All players get one shared set of ten puzzles for the day. A new set unlocks at midnight India time, and the grid you share hides every answer.
Why did I get zero for a question?
Either the answer was wrong or the 25-second timer ran out before you tapped.
