How to Play

  1. Choose a game type. World mixes flags from every continent, or you can stick to one region: Asia, Europe, Africa, Americas or Oceania.
  2. Pick a difficulty. Easy shows famous flags you see at cricket matches and the Olympics, Medium adds plenty of less familiar ones, and Hard brings in lookalike flags and lesser-known countries.
  3. Each round asks one of two things. Either a flag appears and you tap the country it belongs to, or a country name appears and you tap the correct flag out of four.
  4. Answer before the 15-second timer runs out. The right choice is highlighted at once, with a short fact about that flag.
  5. After ten rounds you see your final points. Play again to improve your best score.

Rules

Every correct answer is worth 100 points, and you can earn up to 50 more for speed. The bonus shrinks as the timer runs down, so a quick, correct tap is worth close to 150. A wrong tap or an empty answer scores zero, but points you have already won are never taken away.

You get one tap per round, and you cannot change it. A streak counter keeps track of correct answers in a row. Your best score stays saved on your device.

There is nothing to type. Every round has exactly four choices and only one correct answer.

Tips & Strategy

  • Look at the layout first, then the colours. Many flags share the same colours. Decide whether the stripes run across or up and down, then check the order. Chad and Romania, or Indonesia and Monaco, are almost twins, so the small details matter.
  • Hunt for the emblem. A symbol in the centre or the corner is often the giveaway. India has the Ashoka Chakra, while Niger, which uses similar colours, has a plain orange disc.
  • Learn flags in families. The Nordic countries share a cross that sits towards the left. Several Pacific nations carry the Union Jack in the corner. Learn each family together.
  • Read the fact after every answer. Facts like "Nepal's flag is not a rectangle" stick in the memory and help you next time.
  • Practise one region at a time. If African flags keep tripping you up, play a few rounds of Africa alone before going back to World.

Game Modes

Solo gives you ten rounds against the clock. You can also add one to three computer players and watch their scores rise beside yours.

Daily flag quiz gives every player the same ten flags each day, and a new set arrives at midnight India time. When you finish, you can share an emoji grid of green and red squares that shows your result without revealing a single answer. Come back each day to grow your daily streak.

Same device lets two to eight people share one phone or tablet. Players take turns, and each one answers their own set of questions: five each with two to four players, or three each with five to eight. Hand the phone to the next player when your turn is over. The highest total wins.

Play with Friends Online

Tap Play Online, create a room and send the link to up to seven friends. Everyone sees the same flag at the same moment on their own screen. Answers stay hidden until all players have chosen or the timer ends. Then the reveal shows the correct country and who got it right. Quicker correct answers earn more points, so every second counts. The next flag appears by itself after a short pause, and whoever has the most points at the end wins.

Flag Quiz FAQ

Do I need to sign up or download anything?

No. Flag Quiz runs in your web browser on phones, tablets and computers. Open the page and start playing, with no account or app needed.

Which countries are included?

Nearly every member state of the United Nations, plus Vatican City — 193 flags in all. Each region can be played on its own, or all together in World mode.

Why do some flags look almost the same?

Many countries chose similar colours, and a few pairs differ only in shade or shape. On Hard, these lookalikes are often shown together, which is why that level is a real test.

Is the daily flag quiz the same for everyone?

Yes. Every player in India gets the same ten flags on the same day, so you can compare scores with friends and family fairly.

Where do the flag pictures come from?

Flag images are from the open-source flag-icons project, which is shared under the MIT licence.
